0.9.7 — the top and bottom edge

Release 0.9.6 reduced every icon to seventeen units on its longer side. For the feed and the f that came to the same thing, since both are taller than they are wide. The butterfly is the other way round — levelled by width, it came out shorter than its neighbours by a good tenth.

The earlier fix equalised the FIELD the drawing stands in. A row is levelled by something else: the icons stand side by side, so the eye reads their shared top edge and their shared bottom edge. Equal fields with unequal proportions give unequal edges, and it is the edges that show.

The frame is now computed from height: every drawing's outline is exactly seventeen units tall and sits centred in a field of twenty-four. The top and bottom pixel of ink falls at an identical height in every icon.

The price is paid in width — the butterfly is now wider than the feed and the f. That is intended. Drawings of different proportions cannot be equalised in height and width at once; one can only choose which dimension decides. In a row, height decides, because height is the shared edge.

Verified by measurement rather than by eye: the three icons pulled out of the built HTML, rasterised and measured. The top edge of the ink on the same pixel in each, and the bottom edge too. Eyesight let this through once already and did not get a second vote.
