0.7.0 — the note under an entry leaves the code

06:40. A note rendered underneath every entry — a short sentence with a link, useful to the site the engine had grown out of. It sat hard-coded in the entry route. Which means: every instance of Kolofon, whatever it was about, got a note under its text tailored to an entirely different site.

Now it is an optional configuration field. No field, nothing renders. A site that needs such a note writes its own. A cookery site writes none and nobody makes it.

This change has a hidden edge, and it showed itself a few hours later while updating an older instance. Since the note is no longer in the code, an instance that relied on it loses it the moment the engine is synchronised — unless somebody copies it into configuration first. So a new version is capable of quietly removing content somebody cared about. Hence the warning paragraph in the field's description, written in the imperative.

The second item in this release is shorter and more embarrassing. The comment policy setting had a value meaning “disabled”. Setting it made the comment form disappear. The comment section, with the existing comments, stayed. So “disabled” meant “you cannot add a new one”, not “there are no comments here”.

This is not a bug that breaks the site. It is a bug that makes a switch fail to do what its name promises, which is a worse species of bug, because it does not report itself. It reports itself only when somebody relies on that setting.
